What Are the Benefits of Using CBD Oil for Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is a medical disorder Mayo Clinic researchers believe influences how the brain processes pain signals that emanate throughout the body. Symptoms of the condition include fatigue, sleep disorders, memory lapses, and mood swings.

While there is no determined cure for fibromyalgia, scientists have identified a handful of potential treatments. One of those experiments involves using CBD oil for fibromyalgia as a means of reducing the symptoms of the condition to improve the health and well-being of people suffering from the disorder.

How Can CBD Oil for Fibromyalgia Help Patients?

CBD is a natural cannabinoid derived from cannabis plants. Unlike THC, it does not cause the trademark high associated with marijuana. Rather, CBD has become a vital trademark of the health and wellness industry. It’s now available to consumers through various health products that improve one’s well-being.

Doctors have determined that the natural remedies contained within CBD oil can help improve the mental health of people who suffer from various disorders. As a naturally-derived remedy, CBD has even helped treat or minimize the effects of physical ailments that hinder people’s health. This includes treating the symptoms of menopause in women who go through the condition.

But What About Fibromyalgia

The human body feels aches, pains, and ailments when the endocannabinoid system is deficient. Endocannabinoids are neurotransmitters that flow through the body to reduce physical pain and discomfort. When there are diminished numbers of endocannabinoids in the system, the body is susceptible to increased feelings of pain.

CBD is a natural cannabinoid with many similarities to the endocannabinoids that flow throughout the body. As a result, clinical trials have identified how CBD can function as a supplement for deficient endocannabinoid systems, allowing the body to process aches and discomfort while reducing the overall levels of chronic pain.

Given that fibromyalgia is diagnosed by intense musculoskeletal pain, it stands to reason that deficient endocannabinoid systems are at least partly responsible for the disorder. Since CBD can substitute for natural endocannabinoids in the body, there are viable reasons to suspect CBD can help fibromyalgia patients lessen the overall sense of pain.

CBD Oil for Fibromyalgia Pain

CBD oil can be administered into the body through oral droplets, capsules, and even in chewable edibles. The effects can occur within the body in as little as 20 minutes after ingesting the dosage. Once the remedy begins to affect the body, users have reported reduced feelings of pain and improved sleeping habits.

Symptoms associated with fibromyalgia often include migraines, irritable bowel syndrome, and other forms of chronic, physical pain. Once CBD oil enters the endocannabinoid system, it begins to circulate throughout the body and, essentially, function as a pain blocker. Aches and pains spurred on by migraines and other physical ailments are greatly diminished by the effects of CBD oil in the body.

One note of consideration is that treatment of the symptoms associated with fibromyalgia pain is all that has been medically proven. There has yet to be a consensus in the medical community as to whether a viable treatment exists in specifically using CBD oil for fibromyalgia pain, though the FDA has approved CBD treatments for conditions like epilepsy.

CBD Dosage for Fibromyalgia

While medical opinion remains divided on CBD’s direct effect on treating fibromyalgia, there are no proven side effects associated with using CBD remedies to treat chronic pain. People suffering from fibromyalgia or similar conditions are free to use CBD doses as a means of coping with the disorders.

Clinical trials are also underway to identify the optimal CBD dosage to treat symptoms of chronic pain associated with conditions like fibromyalgia. In one trial, patients were subjected to various strains of medical cannabis to treat their fibromyalgia symptoms. Some strands contained sole traces of CBD and others contained high amounts of THC.

The trial was conducted over a six month period. By the end of the trial, the median CBD dosage for fibromyalgia patients was approximately 39mg/day. Patients who were treated using THC-heavy cannabis were subjected to doses of 140mg/day.

The researchers also tested the effects of medicinal cannabis in patients that identified fibromyalgia as a primary or secondary medical condition. The data identified that patients with a primary diagnosis of fibromyalgia could receive the same CBD or THC doses as patients with a secondary fibromyalgia condition.

In total, the trial showed an overall treatment success of 81%. Patients who successfully reported improvements in their condition noticed moderate improvements in their overall level of pain with no significant side effects that impacted their health and well-being.

CBD Can Improve Many Types of Pain

Using CBD to treat musculoskeletal conditions is just one possible treatment derived from the natural remedy. CBD has been identified as a natural, healthy, and sustainable method of treating chronic pain associated with a multitude of physical and mental ailments.

Some research has even linked CBD doses as a viable method of mitigating the effects of severe arthritis. Arthritis is defined as the swelling of one or more joints within the body, and typically impacts people’s hands or fingers.

Research indicates that when CBD substitutes for a deficient amount of endocannabinoids in the body, it can help alleviate the pain that surrounds the tender joints afflicted with arthritis. This allows the body to relax the tightness around those sore spots and provide dramatic relief to patients suffering from the sharp, intense aches in their hands.

CBD has many medical benefits that you can learn more about. If health and wellness are important to your own well-being, CBD is a potential treatment you should consider.
