CBD and Cancer
As CBD becomes increasingly popular amongst the general public and within the medical world, many have turned to it as a way to better manage their cancer symptoms. This is primarily because CBD may help to reduce cancer related symptoms and side effects related to cancer treatment, such as nausea, vomiting, and pain.
Beyond this, some scientists believe that CBD has anti-cancer and anti-tumour properties that could potentially slow the growth of the disease. A few test-tube animal studies have shown CBD’s potential anti-cancer properties. One study found that a concentrated dosage of CBD induced cell death in human breast cancer cells. Additionally, a study found that CBD inhibited the spread of aggressive breast cancer cells in mice. More research is required before we can fully understand the relationship between cannabidiol and cancer, but we do know that it is effective for symptom management.
CBD and Cancer Study
One study on CBD and cancer looked at the effects of CBD in 177 people experiencing cancer related pain who did not feel relief from conventional pain medications. Subjects receiving CBD experienced a significant reduction in pain compared even to those who received a THC-only extract. Research has also found CBD to be effective at reducing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, some of the most common yet most debilitating chemotherapy-related side effects. Although there are medications meant to treat these symptoms, they are sometimes ineffective, leading some patients to seek a more natural and effective option.
